In what is perhaps the biggest news of the year (you know, aside from the Intel switch or the Cube Jr.), Apple has finally, finally, finally, finally released a mouse to be excited about.

That’s right, I said excited. About a mouse. I’m happy they’ve finally conceded that the one-button mouse just wasn’t cutting it anymore, because that means a more elegant solution for multi-buttoned happiness. Along with this comes some catchy marketing jargon, and I quote:

Try reading this web page without scrolling. Every day you navigate through files, email and web pages by scrolling horizontally and vertically. Now you can do it all with your fingertip.

And:

Alas the fate of the one-button mouse in today’s multibutton world. Who has time for intuitive, elegant design when there is so much clicking to do?

That was some lovely justification. Of course they’ve taken the concepts of scrolling and clicking and built upon them to form the ultimate Apple input device, but they’re practically saying, “Oh yeah, one button mice? We never liked those. Duh.”

Well, anyway, thanks Apple, for finally caving in, even if that’s not what you think you did. Now you just need to add one more little feature (it starts with a ‘B’ and ends with a ‘luetooth’) and we’ll be set.

At least that’ll give me some time to get a little more work out of my mouse before it finds itself in auxiliary status.
